Shanna’s triple success

03 January 2001

Shanna Carrell scored a hat trick when she graduated from the University of Teesside. Not only did she receive a Post-Graduate Diploma in Personnel and Development, but she was also awarded two academic prizes. Shanna clinched £100 for the Tees-Valley Branch Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) part-time student of the year, and £250 for the CIPD PQS Specialist/Generalist Personnel and Development Prize.

Shanna, from Brompton, North Yorkshire, is working as an Assistant Personnel Officer for North Yorkshire County Council in Northallerton. She gained the Post-Graduate Diploma through three years of part-time study. Shanna said: “I could not have got my current job without this professional qualification. I was absolutely stunned to win the prizes; I’ll be putting the money towards a car and I’m hoping to progress further in my studies.”

Before joining the County Council, Shanna was employed in a variety of settings, including working as a nanny in France and as a community service volunteer, living with people with learning disabilities.
