Teesside research helps tackle poverty

22 February 2012

Dr Paul Crawshaw, an internationally recognised medical sociologist from Teesside University is speaking on tackling poverty as part of a Christian led conference.

Dr Crawshaw is sharing years of research about poverty in Middlesbrough which has been undertaken at the University and how to tackle the issue.

Bridging the Gap – Tackling Poverty Together is a conference for all those concerned about the Christian response to those experiencing poverty – supported by the Church Urban Fund.

First hand stories of those who have struggled in poverty will be heard as well as information about projects to help.

Dr Crawshaw, Director of the Social Futures Institute at Teesside University, conducts research which focuses on the politics of promoting behavioural change and understanding health governance.

“It is important we look at what is being done to tackle poverty and most importantly, evaluate what works and what doesn’t. By understanding why some things work and others don’t, we can be more effective in applying measures that will make a real difference in people’s lives.”

The conference is on Thursday 23 February at The Trinity Centre, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough.
