Celebrating Easter in Darlington

27 March 2012

Easter cards and crafts were created by primary school children visiting Teesside University’s Darlington campus.

Around 100 children from primary schools across Darlington were invited to celebrate Easter by taking part in the special activities session at the University’s campus off Vicarage Road.

It follows on from the success of a Christmas family fun day held at the Darlington campus, which included a free afternoon of festive activities including craft making, a nativity play, carol singing and a visit by Father Christmas.

Children from Darlington’s Heathfield Primary, Education Village and Corporation Road Primary were invited to take part in the Easter event.

Katherine Humpleby, assistant head teacher at Education Village, said: 'It’s been a great experience for our younger children and we’ve also brought along some students from our BTEC health and social care. It’s been great experience for them too, helping during the event and also giving them a taste of the University.'

Among children taking part in the craft session was nine-year-old Heathfield pupil Keely Metcalfe. She said: 'We’d normally be doing maths right now, so it’s fun being able to make Easter cards and puppets. I’ve really enjoyed it.'

Nathan Knibbs, nine, of Education Village, said: 'It’s really been fun and I’ve enjoyed making cards and decorating eggs. I made an alien egg.'

Nicola Doyle, the University’s Recruitment Manager, said, 'The Easter event at Darlington was a huge success with the children showing real creative flair.

'It was lively and fun and also great to see the University’s first class facilities at the Darlington campus used for another successful community event.'
