Teesside University Business School plays a major part in the business landscape of the Tees Valley and through its annual conference, top speakers give their perspective on business issues.

This year's event will be held from 9.00am to 12.30pm on Wednesday 30 May at the University's Europa Building, off Southfield Road, Middlesbrough.

Speakers will include

* Dr Rona Fairhead CBE, chief executive of the Financial Times Group, one of the most senior positions in British publishing

* David Bowles OBE, director at the Northern Business Forum, and chairman of Inova Power Ltd and Northern Defence Industries

* Professor Michael Macaulay, a Teesside University academic specialising in public management.

Dr Fairhead is a Harvard Business School graduate and a non-executive director of HSBC. She spent many years working in the Tees Valley as executive vice-president for strategy and finance at ICI and is also a Teesside University Honorary Graduate.

David Bowles OBE, who has an MBA from Teesside University, is director at the Northern Business Forum and chairman of Inova Power Ltd and Northern Defence Industries. Until very recently he was chairman of Northern Defence Industries.

Professor Michael Macaulay, from Teesside University Business School, specialises in public management. Professor Macaulay’s research interests include ethical leadership, the modernisation agenda in local government and the philosophical dimensions of management.

Also speaking will be Kiersten Wasson, Teesside University Business School Assistant Dean (Acting), Marketing & Student Recruitment.

Following the speakers will be a Q&A session, with business representatives able to ask the panel questions.

Alastair Thomson, Teesside University Business School’s Dean, said: 'Our annual conference offers businesses an opportunity to share ideas to make their organisations more profitable, more stable and more sustainable, even in these tough times.'
