Teesside ticks creative box

07 November 2012

Two media courses at Teesside University are among a select number from across the UK to receive a prestigious industry stamp of approval.

The courses at Teesside have been awarded the Creative Skillset Tick following a rigorous industry assessment designed to ensure courses are meeting the demands of employers.

The BA (Hons) Television and Film Production and BA (Hons) Broadcast Media Production were both successful in receiving the Creative Skillset Tick

In its 2012 report, the Creative Industries Council Creative Skillset Skills Group recommended that the criteria and standard required to receive industry accreditation should be raised to ensure that only courses delivering industry relevant training whilst building partnerships with business were awarded the Tick.

The pilot phase of the scheme has now been completed with 96 courses from across the UK receiving the Tick accreditation.

Professor Gerda Roper, Dean of the School of Arts & Media, said: 'Teesside University has already achieved Media Academy Status and is part of a group of institutions identified by Skillset as centres of excellence in creative media education and training.

'For our courses to now be accredited with the Creative Skillset Tick is yet another fantastic endorsement and reinforces our commitment to delivering industry standard education and training to our students.

'The assessors from the media industries couldn't praise us enough for our close engagement with industry, cutting edge course design and our outstanding teaching, excellent equipment and incredibly positive, well-qualified technicians. We are particularly pleased with what they had to say about the students they met being highly motivated, energetic and bright.'

David Abraham, Chief Executive of Channel 4 and Creative Skillset Board member, said: 'The Creative Skillset Tick is an essential signpost that helps potential students choose courses that are approved by industry. It tells them the course has gone through thorough assessment, including a review of graduate employment, work experience and links with industry, which contribute to improved employment prospects on completion of the course.'
