Teesside degree helps Cassandra land her dream career

15 November 2012

Computing graduate Cassandra Reynolds says her time at Teesside University helped to set her on the path to her dream career.

Having completed the BA (Hons) Web and Multimedia Design, she is currently working as a front-end developer and all round ‘web guru’ with Standing Stone Productions in Newcastle.

Cassandra, 23, from Birmingham, said: 'Since around the age of 13 I have had an interest in coding websites and Photoshop simply for fun. This took me onto doing a national diploma in graphic design, where part of the course included web design.

'I was more focused in those lessons because I was creating interactive projects and loved the range of results that can be achieved through the web. As a result of my experience with it, it led me to the web and multimedia degree at Teesside University as I wanted to develop my skills and gain a recognised qualification.'

She added: 'The degree course helped to prepare me for working in this industry as the range of theory based and practical subjects helped me to develop skills, especially the ability to think critically. Specialist modules such as accessibility and adaptive tech helped me to understand current issues faced by a range of users as well as the challenge of cross browser/platform testing.

'I found the technical lessons extremely useful and enjoyable. The multimedia lessons were fantastic as the assignment we were set allowed us to be extremely creative and innovative.

'Teesside University’s careers service provided excellent advice on CV preparation and interview techniques, while the Graduates for Business scheme ran by the University helped me to find the job that I always wanted to do.'

She added: 'I loved the University’s lab facilities, talks from industry representatives and also the gallery restaurant on the top floor of the students’ union. You can’t beat a good wholesome lunch for a student price and if you need to burn it off there are plenty of clubs to join, from rock climbing to rowing.

'For computing subjects I couldn’t recommend anywhere else better than Teesside University. The lecturers are really dedicated to their subject and the support was amazing.'
