Teesside University graduate in a league of her own

15 November 2012

Sports enthusiast Kate Gascoigne has landed her dream job working at a professional football club.

Kate 24, is employed at Carlisle United FC as a Youth and Reserve Team Sports Therapist.

She graduates with an MSc Sports Therapy and secured the job following a successful placement during her final year of study.

Kate, from Carlisle, said: 'I have always loved sport which is why I chose a degree in sports therapy, but I never expected to be working with a professional club straight after University.

'I am really enjoying the role and it is allowing me to put all of the skills I learnt during the course into practice.'

Kate began work experience at Carlisle United last October, helping out on match days and familiarising herself with the procedures of a professional football club. She made such a positive impression that she was offered a full-time position as soon as she finished her last exam.

'I couldn’t believe it. I was absolutely over the moon,' Kate said.

'To work at a professional club is a dream come true and to be offered the job on the day I finished my last exam was a fantastic feeling. 'The sports therapy course prepared me for real life situations and I know that I was offered the job partly because of the course and also my on-going work experience.

'Through working at the club my possibilities are endless, I would like to branch out into other sports eventually but I just can’t believe that I’m working for a professional football club at such a young age.'
