Jenny Chapman MP visited Teesside University’s Darlington campus on Friday 1 March to hear more about the Darlington Cares project and its objectives.
Launched last year, Darlington Cares brings together public and private sector employers who encourage their staff to take part in volunteering and social responsibility.
She is planning to write to the organisations involved praising the way they have come together to support the initiative.
Mrs Chapman said: ‘This is a really important initiative, which brings a lot of people together in an effort to improve the community.
‘The Cares movement is still in its infancy and I am going to write to thank people for their support in getting behind it.’
As well as the University, other organisations supporting the project include Darlington Borough Council, Cummins, Lingfield Point owners Marchday, the NHS, Sherwoods and Newsquest, the company which published The Northern Echo.
