Career boost for Teesside graduates

Teesside University graduates who completed their course this year are being encouraged to apply for a unique internship scheme to boost their employability credentials.

A total of 100 paid internships are available to 2013 graduates still seeking employment in a wide range of industries, from engineering to marketing and graphic design to games programming.

The Teesside graduate internship scheme runs from January to March 2014 and offers interns the chance to gain valuable work experience and take part in an integrated development programme delivered by the University.

The deadline for applications is Friday 25 October.

One of last year’s interns was Nick Twiname who secured a prestigious place on the Marks & Spencer management programme after completing an internship at Time Out of the Box.

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise (Applied Sports Science) graduate said: 'The internship scheme and the University's Careers Service have been so beneficial. I feel a lot more confident as a result of the support I received from the University.'

Another of last year’s interns was BSc (Hons) Psychology graduate Emma Limon, whose time at Sanctuary Supported Living was extended after she impressed during her time there.

'The internship was a really positive experience and I learnt a lot about the sector,' she said.

Professor Eileen Martin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Teesside University, said: 'We want to equip our graduates with all the skills they need to find employment or start their own businesses. Employers are often looking for experience and entrepreneurship alongside qualifications and this scheme provides an ideal opportunity for graduates to gain vital experience and enhance their CVs.'
