Regional Development: The Way Ahead?

The issue of regional economic development will be explored in a half-day workshop at the University of Teesside on Monday 17 April. The workshop, entitled ‘Regional Development: The Way Ahead?’, hosted by the University’s School of Business & Management, is a partnership with Greig Middleton stockbrokers, and will be held in the University’s Innovation & Virtual Reality Centre from 9.30am-1pm.

The two speakers are Professor Tim Congdon CBE, Managing Director of Lombard Street Research Ltd and Michael Collier, Chief Executive of the development agency One NorthEast. Professor Congdon was a member of the Treasury Panel of Independent Forecasters, known as ‘The Wise Men’ from 1992 to 1997. In 1997 he was awarded the CBE for services to economic debate. Professor Congdon’s talk will be entitled ‘Why Regional Subsidies Are Wrong’. Michael Collier will speak about the regional economic strategy for One NorthEast.

The two speakers will be followed by a Question and Answer session chaired by David Bowles, Director of Business Development with One NorthEast and a Teesside MBA graduate.
