University of Teesside wins Investors in People

08 February 2000

The University of Teesside has achieved Investor in People (IIP) status and joins a select band of universities achieving Investors in People recognition for the whole institution.

Investors in People is the national standard which sets a level of good practice for organisations wishing to improve their performance through the training and development of employees.

Mr John Bennett, Chief Executive of the Tees Valley Training and Enterprise Council (TEC), presented the IIP Award to the University at a joint meeting of the Board of Governors and Academic Board. He said: "The University is the biggest education and training provider in the Tees Valley to have gained Investors in People and it is marvellous that an organisation of this size, with 1,500 employees, has achieved this national standard."

Professor Derek Fraser, the University of Teesside’s Vice-Chancellor, said: "Achieving Investors in People is of enormous strategic importance to the University and signals our commitment to staff development and involvement in the achievement of business objectives. It will also enable us to participate in a range of activities which are critical to our mission."

Professor Graham Henderson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for staff development, said: "The investment and review of this important area for the University will continue with the support of an action plan which sets out how we intend to build on our staff development and related activities."
