Official Opening of University’s Centre for Enterprise

David Irwin, Chief Executive of the Small Business Service, will officially open the University of Teesside’s Centre for Enterprise on Victoria Road, Middlesbrough, on Friday 16 March.

The purpose-built facility comprising a suite of conference and training and exhibition area is part of the £4m Europa complex, which also includes new facilities for the University’s School of Computing & Mathematics .

Friday’s event hosted by Professor Derek Fraser, Vice Chancellor, begins at 12.15pm and includes speeches by Mr Irwin and Dr. John Bridge, Chief Executive of One North East.

Centre Manager Catherine Kearney said: “The Centre for Enterprise is a gateway for businesses to the University’s varied support services and will offer companies across the region business information, advice, services and assistance.”

She explained the Centre has designed an efficient enquiry system to achieve a speedy response from the relevant University academic departments to enquiries from businesses, with the Centre acting as the initial point of contact.

Mr Irwin was Director of Project North East until 2000, one of the UK’s leading enterprise and economic development agencies and has considerable experience providing consultancy support directly to small firms. The Small Business Service is an executive agency of the Department Trade and Industry. Guests will be invited to tour the facilities and learn about the Centre’s role within the business community.
