Sporting success for Teesside students

03 April 2017

Teesside University Students’ Union celebrated a glittering end to the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) season with three teams clinching league titles and Women’s Hockey sealing a sensational double.

Men’s Futsal got the ball rolling in after winning their Northern 3B league with 15 points and just one defeat from six matches.

Women’s Hockey added to the silverware by finishing six points clear and going unbeaten all season in their BUCS Northern 4B league to clinch it with 26 points from 10 games. They sealed a stunning double for Teesside University after winning the Northern Conference Plate.

Women’s Rugby completed a golden season with their 56-19 victory away at Leeds Trinity University securing the BUCS Northern 3B league title. They finished unbeaten and five points clear at the top of their league with 30 points from six games.

The Students’ Union welcomed another addition to its trophy cabinet with a 16-5 to 6.5 points win in the annual Tees Wear Sports Varsity against University Of Sunderland. Over 20 different sports teams helped Teesside to a comprehensive win in the event held here at the Teesside University campus.

Amy Preston, Vice-President Activities at the Students’ Union, said: ‘A massive congratulations to all the teams and individuals who have won leagues and cups for Teesside this season. It’s fantastic to get our hands on some silverware and it’s a testament to the commitment and effort of all the students who have represented the respective teams that they’ve done so well this year.

‘I must say a special well done to Women’s Hockey on an amazing double and going unbeaten all season against some very tough competition.’
