The Psychology Society at Teesside University only formed towards the end of 2016, but already has over 60 members.

They were awarded Most Improved Society and Society Stripes at the Student’s Union Awards.

The Psychology Society is an inclusive group, comprising of students at varying stages of their degree courses. It aims to raise awareness about psychology, while also taking part in education, charity and fundraising events.

Society member Kylie Allen, 28, who is in the second year of her BSc (Hons) Psychology, said: 'We have tried to bring students together from across different year groups to form friendships, make people feel equal and improve the student experience.

'The society is a mix of academic and social activities, which are equally important. We were delighted to win both awards and it shows how much we have achieved in such a short space of time.'

Hannah Erdem, 26, is also in the second year of her BSc (Hons) Psychology. She was recently chosen as one of three Teesside students to present their research in Parliament and is making the most of the opportunities provided at Teesside University.

The course has been absolutely fantastic and there are so many different elements to keep you engaged.

She added: 'The course has been absolutely fantastic and there are so many different elements to keep you engaged.

'But I have also found that there are a lot of opportunities to get involved in additional activities which is a great experience and something extra to put on your CV.

'The Psychology Society has been really successful and I am really pleased to be involved and to win two awards.'

Alex Farrington, second year BSc (Hons) Psychology student added: 'It is still a relatively new society and the aim now is to establish it here at Teesside and hopefully it will be here for many years to come. I would like to think that other students will see the awards we have won and be inspired to join.'
