Free film screenings to celebrate LGBT History Month

A series of films which feature characters as they explore issues surrounding their gender and sexuality will be screened free of charge at Teesside University to mark LGBT History month 2019.

Transamerica, The Kids are Alright, Bohemian Rhapsody and Call Me By Your Name will be shown on Thursday evenings, at 6.00pm in the University’s Europa building.

Admission is free and the screenings are open to the public, but places are limited and must be booked in advance. The screening dates are:

Transamerica: Thursday 21 February Starring Felicity Huffman, this film follows a transgender woman who embarks on an unexpected road trip after discovering she fathered a son. Book a place

The Kids are Alright: Thursday 28 February Annette Bening and Julianne Moors star as a same-sex couple bringing up two children, whose biological father crashes into their non-traditional family life. Book a place

Bohemian Rhapsody: Thursday 7 March Biographical film about the British rock band Queen, starring Rami Malek as singer Freddie Mercury, following his life from his joining the band in 1970 to their Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985. Book a place

Call Me By Your Name: Thursday 14 March In 1980s Italy, a romance blossoms between a 17-year-old student and the older man hired as his father’s research assistant. Book a place

Teesside University was this year named as one of the country's top 50 employers for LGBT+ staff.

The University’s commitment to equality was commended by Stonewall, the lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality charity which annually publishes its list of the country’s top 100 workplaces.

Teesside University was placed at 47 in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2019, a rise of 20 places from the University’s position in 2018. It is the fourth consecutive year that Teesside University has been included in the top 100 list of employers, recognised for their outstanding efforts to create an inclusive workplace for their lesbian, gay, bi and trans employees.

Teesside University is one of just five universities in England and the only university in the North East to be featured in the top 50 in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2019.
