Teesside University and Edinburgh College sign agreement to boost student progression

28 June 2019

An articulation agreement has been signed which will enable Edinburgh College Engineering graduates to progress to the third and final year of the BEng Tech (Hons) Petroleum and Gas Engineering at Teesside University.

Students and graduates of either HND Mechanical Engineering or HND Engineering Systems will be able to take the opportunity by completing bridging modules after their college studies. HND Mechanical Engineering graduates will be required to complete two modules, while those who have completed the HND Engineering Systems course will need to complete one bridging module.

The modules will provide students with the sufficient credits required for direct entry onto the Teesside University BEng Tech (Hons) Petroleum and Gas Engineering programme.

Jon Buglass, Edinburgh College Vice Principal: Innovation, Planning and Performance, said: 'It’s fantastic to start this new agreement with Teesside University, a well-established and highly respected provider of engineering training and education.

'This articulation agreement, which will be in place from academic term 2019/20, will give our students an exciting new opportunity to progress from HND to Honours Degree and potentially will open doors to further study in the form of other industry-related MSc courses.

'We look forward to working with Teesside University to benefit our students and supply the engineering industry with a skilled workforce fit for the future.'

Dr Tannaz Pak,Senior Lecturer in Petroleum Engineering and the Course Leader for the BEng (Hons) Tech Petroleum and Gas Engineering at Teesside University, said: 'We are delighted to be working so closely with students at Edinburgh College.

'This new agreement is an effective way of achieving an engineering degree, saving the students one year, as well as giving them the opportunity to experience studying away from home.'
