Teesside University’s Business School collaborated with Middlesbrough-based High Tide to deliver the three-day online work experience programme.

The free programme attracted 50 students aged 14-18 from schools across the Tees Valley.

All students were put into groups and given different tasks throughout the event to allow them to get real-life work experience.

The event gave students different tasters of topics such as marketing, finance, logistics and planning. The students then had the opportunity to show their own skills whilst receiving feedback from practitioners and academics.

Dr Jennifer Hagan, Principal Lecturer at Teesside University Business School, who delivered the event, said: ‘The High Tide events have really showcased the future talent of the UK events industry. Every single participant showed their knowledge, displayed great team working and really applied their learning into the challenge.

‘The students came from different areas of study with a mix of interests, which reflected the diversity of the industry itself. Every group came up with an original festival idea that could have been created and made an impact, they were really inspiring.’ Lauren Bywater, High Tide’s General Manager also comments: 'After working with Teesside University for a number of years, it was amazing to collaborate on the launch of the new 3-day progress with the Business School.

Every single participant showed their knowledge, displayed great team working and really applied their learning into the challenge.

‘Our programmes are designed to showcase career opportunities and provide live engagement with employers, all critical to increase awareness, raise confidence and help young people make more informed decisions. We’re looking forward to planning more programmes together in the future.’

Teesside University have worked with High Tide for many years to provide successful work experience events for students.

High Tide is an independent charity focused on connecting classroom with careers by delivering meaningful work experience and career programmes to schools, colleges, and young people in the Tees Valley.

It provides free programmes and experiences to give students a chance to improve their skills, engage with employers and increase their knowledge of other career opportunities.

Teesside University hopes to provide more students with work experience with hope to run the same event again in 2022.
