Dr Tannaz Pak, Senior Lecturer in Energy and Environmental Engineering in the University’s School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies, has been invited to talk at the North East Heroes - Inspiring Tomorrow’s Engineers event.

The online session, hosted by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), will showcase the work of three top female engineers who have been recognised as engineering heroes.

The aim of the event is to encourage more women to pursue careers in STEM subjects.

Dr Pak will discuss her career to date, the engineers who have inspired her over the years and the research projects she is undertaking around water treatment, renewable energy, decarbonisation and nanotechnology.

She said: ‘I am delighted to have been invited to talk at this event. Hearing female engineers speak about their work and careers was a great inspiration to me when I first embarked on my journey and I feel privileged to follow in these footsteps now to empower others.

‘I am a very keen advocate for women in engineering, and I feel that I have a responsibility to share my experiences with the engineers of tomorrow.’

Dr Pak was selected as one of the speakers after receiving major national recognition earlier this year.

She was named as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering: Engineering Heroes award winners by WES in recognition of her outstanding research, which is contributing to the development of sustainable and innovative solutions in areas such as energy and water.

Dr Pak’s accomplishments also include being a Chartered Engineer, a professional member of the Institute of Materials and an Advance HE fellow.

She added: ‘I am extremely proud to be identified as one of the top women in engineering. I have worked hard to get to where I am today and to receive such significant recognition is an honour.’

The virtual event will take place on 18 November between 12:00pm - 1:00pm.
