Teesside University proudly sponsoring Diwali festival

Teesside University is proud to support the Diwali festival as it returns to Middlesbrough later this month.

Diwali in Middlesbrough is set to return to Centre Square on Saturday 29 October, following last year’s successful event. This free, family-friendly festival will include live entertainment, a shopping bazaar, workshops, a carnival parade and a Bollywood-themed roof top firework finale.

Diwali, also known as The Festival of Light, is a global celebration representing the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.

Although mainly celebrated by Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist faiths around the world, the festival has been produced and promoted to be inclusive of all backgrounds, races, religions and beliefs.

Teesside University is sponsoring the event and will have a stand on the day with a range of interactive activities.

Dr David Bell, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) and the University’s Equality & Diversity Champion (Faith and Belief) said: “We are delighted to be able to support this festival, which will bring people together from many faiths, cultures and backgrounds.

“We value the diversity of our students and staff at Teesside University and celebrations such as the Diwali festival fit perfectly with our mission and values. We are proud to be one of the sponsors and are looking forward to a fantastic event.”

The Diwali festival has been organised by Kash Patel Productions, the team also behind Curry on Comedy and Middlesbrough Mela.

Kash said: “Last year’s event was so well received by the people of Teesside that I’m delighted to announce that we will be doing it all over again. If you enjoyed the Mela, then you are going to love Diwali.

“Best of all, the whole event is absolutely free of charge. Save the date and come celebrate Diwali in Middlesbrough on a scale never seen before right in the heart of the town.”

The event is produced in partnership with Middlesbrough Council with the support of the Arts Council of England and sponsors Unison and Teesside University.
