An audience of around 60 teachers, careers advisors, and those working in an advisory capacity with post-16 students attended the Supporting Progression conference, aimed at those involved in supporting students throughout their journey into higher education.

Hannah, founder of Cherished UK, a charity which provides attachment-focused and trauma responsive support for children and young people, spoke at the conference on motivating and inspiring students to be their best., while keeping mental health and wellbeing at the forefront.

She founded Cherished UK when she was 18, in response to her own personal experiences and seeing the attachment needs of students not being met.

Hannah said: “My work involves travelling around the country, sharing insight into the power of connections, and I had a really positive day at Teesside University, with everyone sharing their learning experience.

“We looked at the power of connection and educating young people who may not want to connect. We also looked at how educating and empowering people in their roles can help them to get the best from their students.”

Talks were also presented by representatives from sixth form colleges and UCAS, and delegates also got involved in practical taster sessions on subjects such as biomedical science, cybersecurity, enterprise, fashion, operating department practice, and primary teaching.

Abbie English, Deputy Director (Student Recruitment & Admissions), in Student Recruitment & Marketing, said: “We were delighted to welcome our speakers to this event, as their enthusiasm and knowledge is always well received.

“Events such as these provide a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with support professionals working with young people to support their progression into higher education.”
