The inaugural Teesside University London cohort had their achievements recognised in a formal ceremony presided over by the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Simpson.

The campus, based at Here East in the Olympic Park at Stratford, East London, opened its doors to its first students in September 2023, with an initial focus on digital technology and enterprise.

The new campus was established to bring in-demand subjects to new markets and link the thriving digital cluster at Teesside University’s home campus in Middlesbrough with the capital.

Teesside University London operates an innovative teaching model with entry points in September, November and January, together with compressed teaching to make study more accessible to students from all walks of life.

The first graduation ceremony bestowed degrees upon 29 postgraduate students and also featured speeches from Professor Chrisina Jayne, Dean and Director of Teesside University London, and Gavin Poole, CEO of Here East, with MSc International Management graduate Hanna Khan delivering the valedictory address.

As Teesside University London’s Alumni community continues to grow, further graduation ceremonies will be held in February and April.

As well as becoming the inaugural graduates of Teesside University London, the 29 graduates recognised in this month’s ceremony will also benefit from joining the wider Teesside University Alumni community of 150,000 graduates in 150 countries.

This has been a momentous occasion for Teesside University London and a significant milestone for our University as a whole.

Professor Simpson said: “This will be the first of many future graduation ceremonies to be held at Teesside University London and it has been a pleasure to recognise the commitment and determination of our students and celebrate their achievements on this landmark occasion. “By expanding our networks and building links between Middlesbrough and London, our London campus is playing a key role in helping us deliver our ambition to change lives and economies.”

Professor Jayne added: “This has been a momentous occasion for Teesside University London and a significant milestone for our University as a whole.

“In the short time it has been in operation, Teesside University London has built an impressive network of connections and opportunities for collaboration with a diverse range of entrepreneurs, businesses, and the wider community.

“When we started on the journey of establishing this new campus, our ambition was to create a place where innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence could thrive and seeing the first cohort of our graduates cross the stage has made me very proud this ambition has been realised.”
