His current, academic approach is derived out of his own, personal experiences as an activist at a small, southern US university in the early-mid 1990s, at which Dr Moore and his compatriots founded the university's first LGB (as it was then) society. This was against considerable resistance from the university itself and the community.

Dr Moore also undertook activism at the Florida State University in the late 90s, including marking on the capital in Tallahassee. Dr Moore remains active, as work permits, with LGBTQ+ organisations and continues to produce research outputs on queer and trans issues.

This is for visibility, at its most fundamental, but also to hopefully advance our understanding of this complex subject.
