Brewing up the right course for managers

11 July 2001

The University of Teesside is taking the classroom to the world of industry and this week (Thursday 19 July) starts a six part course covering everything from food safety to quality auditing for 30 senior and middle mangers at Eaglescliffe-based Tetley GB Ltd – one of the biggest tea factories in the world.

Organised by the Food Technology Centre at the Middlesbrough-based university in conjunction with Tetley’s Operations Quality Manager, Richard Hauserman, the sessions will be delivered on site from now until November.

Food technologist Helen Hood is delighted by the link-up and says: “This is the kind of relationship with the food and drinks manufacturing industry that we have been aiming to achieve since setting up the centre. We have run sessions at the University before and worked with companies on a consultancy basis and even held one-day workshops outside - but this is the first time we have actually delivered a full programme away from the University campus.”

Speaking on behalf of Tetley’s, Mr Hauserman said: “We had been planning something like this and the company is very excited to be working with the University on this programme.”

The Good Manufacturing Practice course includes sessions on Food Law & Regulations; Food Safety; Quality Management; Quality Auditing and Hazard Analysis.

Helen Hood says she would be delighted to hear from other companies interested in a similar arrangement with the Food Technology Centre. Her e-mail is h.hood@tees.ac.uk and her telephone number is 01642 342422.
