Important update for employers: changes to Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship funding

20 March 2026

Following the recent government announcement regarding apprenticeship funding, we want to keep our employer partners informed about upcoming changes to the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) and Healthcare Management (CMDA).

From September 2026, these apprenticeship standards will no longer receive government funding. As a result, the May 2026 intake is expected to be the final planned opportunity to enrol apprentices onto these programmes.

We recognise that this change may impact workforce development planning for many organisations. Our team is here to support businesses in reviewing options and identifying the most suitable pathways for current and future leadership and management development needs.

The Department for Education has introduced a capped allocation for new apprenticeship starts ahead of the funding change. While this means places will be limited, we are working closely with employers to help plan ahead and secure opportunities where possible.

Next steps If you are considering the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship for your organisation, we encourage you to get in touch with the team to discuss your plans and potential requirements. This will help us understand demand and provide guidance on availability. Please contact the team at apprenticeships@tees.ac.uk to discuss:

  • the number of apprentices you may wish to enrol
  • confirmation that eligibility requirements can be met (see course details on our website).
To support employers and prospective apprentices in understanding the programme and the upcoming changes, we are also hosting an online Discovery Session on Tuesday 24 March, 10–11am.
