Teesside University alumnus Gordon McCartney (BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Therapy, 2012) has been awarded the prestigious title of Fellow of The Society of Sports Therapists, recognising his outstanding contribution to the profession and commitment to the highest standards of care. Based in Ballymena, Gordon is a highly experienced Senior Sports Therapist with more than 20 years in the field of sports injury, rehabilitation and athlete care. Over the course of his career, he has worked with senior Irish League football clubs and international squads, including Ballymena United, Linfield Football Club and the Northern Ireland U23 team.
Gordon currently owns and manages The Hollies Sports Injury Clinic, where he continues to deliver specialist care to athletes and the wider community. His career highlights include working as senior sports therapist at a testimonial match for Manchester United and Northern Ireland legend Harry Gregg at Windsor Park. In 2014, Gordon was also awarded the Bruce Hobbs Travelling Scholarship by The Society of Sports Therapists, enabling him to undertake a clinical placement at the renowned Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic at the University of Western Ontario in Canada.
Speaking about his latest achievement, Gordon said he was “very honoured” to receive the Fellowship, which recognises both professional excellence and dedication to advancing sports therapy practice. This recognition highlights the impact Teesside University graduates are making within the global sports therapy community.
