The awards celebrate outstanding projects across the region’s construction and infrastructure sector, bringing together leading organisations committed to driving the industry forward.

Shortlisted in six categories, Digital Life won the Delivering Value award and the Integration and Collaboration Working award, with Wates Construction and other partners.

Digital Life was also highly commended in the Building Project of the Year category, highlighting the overall quality and impact of the scheme. Digital Life is the fourth building constructed by Wates for Teesside University, demonstrating the strength of their long-term partnership.

An Outstanding Contribution award was also awarded to Teesside University’s Director of Campus Services Darren Vipond, in recognition of his involvement in helping to shape the campus, from projects such as Cornell Quarter, BIOS, the Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre and Digital Life, helping to create a lasting legacy for students, staff and the wider university community.

Darren said: “We are extremely proud and delighted to see our impressive Digital Life building recognised with accolades at this year’s Constructing Excellence North East Awards. It’s an achievement which is testament to the collaborative efforts between our teams and our partners, who have all worked together to create a modern and innovative space and learning environment.”

Mark Wolverson, Wates Operations Director and project lead for Digital Life, said: “These awards reflect the value of working as one team from the outset. Wates, Teesside University, our partners and supply chain were all united by a shared ambition to create a high-quality, enduring asset that will have a lasting positive impact on the university and the wider community.”

The regional winners now progress to the national finals in London in November.
