Talented interior design students showcase work

Interior design students from Teesside University were invited to showcase their work in a month-long show in London.

EGGER London partnered with the University to showcase work by BA (Hons) Interior Design students, who were also invited to the capital to present and pitch to invited industry representatives.

Global commercial flooring company Egger approached Teesside University to partner with them as part of the first Clerkenwell Grad Week a major new showcase exhibition for emerging talent.

Clerkenwell already hosts its Clerkenwell Design Week, which sees thousands of interior design industry professionals, architects and designers converge. The aim of Clerkenwell Grad Week Clerkenwell Grad Week has been to provide an opportunity to link regional and London based networks to help support employability.

Ten students from Teesside University were invited to showcase and exhibit their interior design work to an audience which included professional interior designers and architects. It also remained on display throughout the whole of July.

The students presented their work on EGGER’s life-size digital wall, sharing the stories behind their creative concepts and original designs, and developing valuable pitching skills for their careers ahead.

Senior Lecturer in Interior Design Richard Sober said: “It's a huge accolade for a company of Egger’s reputation and standing to request to partner with us. These opportunities grow from relationships our staff build with designers, manufacturers and practitioners.”

The Teesside University students who were involved were Kate Owen, Betsy Gowland, Sophie Turner, Emily Waters, Olivia Kime, Millie Blackburn, Joe Bell, Liyun Leanne Ma, Mana Sassani, and Theo Todd O’Neill.

Betsy said: “Egger has provided us with an amazing opportunity to connect with people across the industry. Everyone has been very welcoming. It has been a great experience that has allowed us to gain new insights and develop skills that we can carry forward as we begin our careers as graduates and designers.”

Kate added “It’s been an incredible opportunity to showcase our final projects at the EGGER showroom in London and connect with other passionate creatives.”

Interior Design lecturer Christie McGowan said: “Though it was a daunting experience the students acquitted themselves so well, each presenting their work to invited design professionals and it was giving them an opportunity to network and connect with others in the industry.”
