Marketing is a wise move for Gayle

06 August 2001

Choosing to study a BA (Hons) degree in Marketing at the University of Teesside has proved a wise choice for Gayle Winlow, as she has clinched a top post as a National Account Manager for the Peterlee-based company Kookabura Limited. Kookabura provide high quality frozen and chilled meat products to a wide range of retailers and manufacturers throughout the UK.

Gayle, 23, from Sunderland, entered the Business world through an unconventional route. She originally gained ‘A’ levels in Art & Design (Photography), Multi-Media (Film & Video) and a GNVQ in Media at Shiney Row College, Sunderland. When it came to University, however, Gayle changed direction.

She said: “I was certain I wanted to study Marketing at degree level because I have always been fascinated by consumer behaviour, product trends and innovations. I chose Teesside because it has a good reputation.

“The facilities at Teesside were brilliant, the University had just completed its new Learning Resource Centre (LRC), which held all the required resources. Lecturers in Teesside Business School were excellent, supportive and good fun too.”

Exploring the Internet was also of interest to Gayle. She said: “The Internet Marketing module was very interesting. We actually designed our own web sites and I found the computer technology fascinating.”

It wasn’t all work and no play for Gayle. “The University’s social facilities were really good, especially the Students’ Union bar called ‘The Local’. The atmosphere and entertainment were always enjoyable, ” she said.

In her current role Gayle manages retail, manufacturing and wholesale accounts. She also conducts research on the Food market and products. Gayle added: “The Food Industry is exciting and dynamic and I have the prefect opportunity to utilise my University education within it.”

Gayle is the daughter of Anthony and Carole Winlow.
