Prince’s Trust open day

05 November 2001

The University of Teesside is holding open days on Saturday 10 November and Wednesday 14 November to offer recent graduates, gap year students and anyone unemployed aged 18-30 the opportunity to learn more about a special Prince’s Trust Volunteers programme project.

The Prince’s Trust Higher Education Personal Development Programme is a 15-week course which improves people’s work and social skills, such as personal confidence and teamwork, in order to increase their career and educational prospects. This new Higher Education course, which is free of charge, follows on the success of the Princes Trust Volunteers Programme offered at the University since 1995 leading to qualifications at further education level.

Dr Margaret Noble, Director of Lifelong Learning, said: “This personal development programme, developed in partnership with the Prince’s Trust and delivered by the University, is a great way for young people to develop the skills they’ll need in the workplace and for further study.

“Everyone on the project takes part in a week-long residential to learn about teamwork skills which they then put into practice through doing a community project and a team challenge. The community project could be remodelling a disabled school’s recreation room or developing an activity garden, while the teamwork challenge could be to organise and run some days out for special needs children or elderly people. We are very confident that people will find this 15-week course both fun and a great help in future development whether in finding and maintaining work or progressing to further study.”

Two open days, held between 10am-2pm on Saturday 10 November and between 4pm-6pm on Wednesday 14 November at The University of Teesside’s Education House on Woodland Road, Middlesbrough, will offer people the chance to find out more about the Prince’s Trust Higher Education Personal Development Programme.

The first Prince’s Trust Higher Education Personal Development Programme begins on Monday 26 November.
