Boro fan lands dream job

14 August 2014

A life-long Middlesbrough fan has secured his dream job working for the football club and has recently returned from a pre-season training camp in Marbella.

Teesside University graduate Alex Larkin is the new Digital Communications Officer at Middlesbrough FC.

His role includes interviewing the players and manager and producing articles and video content, as well as managing the club's social media. Alex will cover all of Middlesbrough's home and away games, compiling post-match interviews and match reports.

'I know how lucky I am to have what I think is a dream job, so I don’t take it for granted whatsoever,' said Alex.

'On my first day, I had literally been sat at my desk for ten minutes when my new boss asked me if I had a passport. I asked why and he told me I would be flying to Marbella. I thought it was a wind up at first - I've been a Boro fan all my life, so flying to the pre-season training camp with the first team was incredible.'

Alex, 21, studied BA (Hons) Multimedia Journalism Professional Practice at Teesside University and during the course was given the opportunity to study in America.

He added: 'The course taught every aspect of journalism, including training in video editing, sound editing and shooting video – not just the written aspect. I liked how hands-on the teaching was and how you were continuously encouraged to build your portfolio outside of university work which helped me a lot in landing this job. 'I would absolutely recommend Teesside University. The course has a lot to offer but you get out what you put in. If you work hard and engage with the course at Teesside, it can be extremely rewarding.'

Paul Dews (Head of Communications) at Middlesbrough Football Club, said: 'We're delighted to welcome Alex on board. He is clearly a credit to Teesside University and is a shining example of what hard work and studying can achieve. We’re hoping Alex will enjoy a successful career with Middlesbrough Football Club.'
