Employment support: work experience programmes

A placement year is an opportunity for your company to address a specific project or series of projects that requires a fresh insight and extra pair of hands. It's also an opportunity for your business to experience how a new graduate would work in your organisation, and evaluate a potential future employee in a cost effective way. You will be able to influence the student's workflow to suit your business needs and the student will bring a fresh perspective into your business.

Our dedicated employment team will support you through the recruitment process from start to finish.

What our students have been saying about us...

ExpoTalent was a great way to improve my communication skills and gain connections in the digital industry. During the event we'd swap business cards, which allowed me to add industry professionals as contacts on LinkedIn. The attendees genuinely looked interested in our work and seemed willing to reach out if they had any placement jobs available. Having events like this between students and employers greatly improves our chances of getting a job in the industry. I worked for MMT Digital during my placement year and undertook tasks and roles including training in web development, JavaScript and C# before I joined the response and maintenance team, which gave me tons of experience. I was given a lot of responsibility including creating Alexa Skills for client pitches and deploying my code to production. My favourite piece of work was for the UK's largest vet group where I overhauled the company's website branding. After finishing my placement, MMT Digital offered me a full-time developer post.

Matthew Charlton, BSc (Hons) Computing

I enjoyed exhibiting at ExpoTalent. It was really satisfying to be able to present a piece of work I was proud of. I also found it useful to practise networking skills, as well as get an idea of the range of different industries that would look to employ someone with my skillset. I spoke to someone who had just taken on a big contract and was looking to hire lots of developers at once, and I also spoke to someone from a smaller company who was looking for local talent. My course offered a good variety of IT-based modules where I've developed skills in programming, web design, development, and IT service management. One of the best things about the course was my year placement at GE Aviation in Southampton. The experience was invaluable, and I learned a lot about the different ways computing can support a business.
