I worked for several years at a supported housing charity in Gateshead, progressing to Business Development Manager. I then moved into the private sector, working at a biotechnology company.

Tell us about your background?
I have also held several non-executive roles within the non-profit sector and I am currently a school governor.
What do you most enjoy about teaching?
I enjoy teaching leadership, sustainability, and HR. I have a keen interest in these areas, as they all leverage my previous work roles. I also enjoy learning, researching and the opportunity to explore new areas.
How can students benefit from your experience?
I am a lifelong student, meaning that I encourage students to be inquisitive, ask questions, and even if I don’t have all the answers, we can research and find them out.
What industry links do you have?
I have good links in biotechnology and life sciences, as well as in the non-profit sector in the North East.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I am in the process of completing my Doctorate in Business Administration, which is a privilege to study as I find it so interesting. I am finalising my data collection, where my topic explores the relationship between Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Northeast England and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Why should students consider studying this course?
The course gives a holistic overview of all things sustainability and sets them up for a successful career or informs their discipline from a sustainability perspective. The skills topics include climate change, risk management, project management, the societal aspects of sustainability and understanding data. Those on the course can gain a Certificate in Higher Education and Associate of the Institute of Sustainability & Environmental Professionals accreditation.
What is the best piece of advice your have for your students?
Be curious, ask questions and plan your time.
