The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency Mr Vikram Doraiswami, led a party of visitors to Teesside University’s National Horizons Centre, a national centre of excellence for bioscience and healthcare.

The visit was organised by North East property and leisure business, the Malhotra Group and Asian Business Connexions, to showcase India’s strength in life sciences and explore opportunities to collaborate with businesses and organisations in the region.

As part of the visit to the National Horizons Centre, the guests learnt about how the University was working with the biosciences and healthcare sectors to deliver impactful research and develop a talent pipeline of employable graduates to address skills gaps in the workforce.

The tour was followed by a round-table discussion led by Sam Allan, Chair of the North East and Cumbria Integrated Care Board and Nicola Hutchinson, Chief Executive of the Academic Health and Science Network alongside academics for local universities and leaders from NHS trusts and industry.

Dr Warren Harrison, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) at Teesside University, said: “At Teesside University we want to support the Tees Valley to become a world-leading destination for business and industry, particularly within the biosciences and healthcare sectors.

We were delighted to welcome His Excellency Mr Vikram Doraiswami and our guests to Teesside to demonstrate some of the world-leading research and knowledge exchange that we are embarking upon.
