New international lead appointed to help deliver Teesside University’s global ambitions

Dr Warren Harrison has been appointed as Teesside’s new Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) to drive the University’s internationalisation agenda.

Currently the Dean of Teesside University International Business School, Dr Harrison will succeed Dr David Bell who will be retiring from the University at the end of March.

Dr Harrison will begin his new role in April, and his leadership, vision, and strategic insights will be vital in ensuring the University continues to grow as a truly global institution.

Dr Harrison’s goal will be to ensure the ongoing success of our high-performing and ambitious international strategy, and enhance the significant contribution it makes to the University’s resilience, long-term growth, and sustainability.

With Dr Harrison’s leadership, Teesside will enhance its existing network of global strategic partnerships with prestigious institutions and expand its transnational education (TNE) and student mobility programmes.

In addition, Teesside will look to build on its excellent reputation amongst international students, having secured a first-place ranking out of 96 global universities for overall satisfaction in the International Student Barometer 2021.*

Dr Harrison joined Teesside University in 2002, focusing his work on the development of industry and educational partnerships, and before his appointment as Associate Dean for Enterprise and Business Engagement in 2017.

His international approach to partnership working subsequently led to his appointment as Associate Dean International for the Business School, one year later.

In this role, Dr Harrison expanded both international student recruitment and Transnational Education, playing a key role in the development of partnerships in the Czech Republic, Italy, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and Uzbekistan.

His knowledge of the sector and impressive experience, especially in the development and delivery of transnational education (TNE), will drive an innovative approach to strategic partnership development.

In 2020, Dr Harrison stepped up to become Dean of Teesside University International Business School, leading its successful strategic development as an industry-facing Business School, producing the brightest talent and ideas to drive innovation, and deliver economic and social impact on a local to global scale.

Commenting on the appointment, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Teesside University Professor Paul Croney OBE said: “I am delighted that Dr Harrison is to become our new Pro Vice-Chancellor (International).

“His knowledge of the sector and impressive experience, especially in the development and delivery of transnational education (TNE), will drive an innovative approach to strategic partnership development.

“I am confident he has the talent, experience, and global outlook to lead our ambitions for TU Global, and deliver a first-class academic and social experience for our international students. Warren will undoubtedly be a valued addition to the University Executive Team.”

Dr Harrison will also continue to lead Teesside University International Business School until a new Dean is appointed to replace him.
