Opportunities - New Courses

06 August 2003

A new range of courses will be launched at the University of Teesside this September, including:

BA (Hons) Advertising Management 3 years full-time The first degree of its kind in the UK, BA (Hons) Advertising Management offers students who do not have a background in art or graphics the opportunity to study how advertising is managed rather than concentrating simply on design and creative issues.

This interesting course will produce graduates with a distinctive profile that should help to make them stand out from the crowd.

Call 01642 342807 for further information.

BA (Hons) Television Production Professional Practice 3 years full-time

This course involves a high level of live production experience in the University's Media Centre, with students working in close contact with professional programme producers and directors. It focuses on factual and news-based or documentary programme making. Graduates will be very well placed to seek immediate entry into the television industry as members of production teams.

The first year develops students' computer and Internet skills and introduces them to the skills needed for writing for the media, for video and audio recording and for editing. It also includes studies of the media industries and factual programme making.

In their second year, students undertake a number of workshop-based projects, which enables them to experience a variety of live roles within the production and direction of television programmes. Students also take modules in news gathering and reporting and in film or other visual media.

In the third year, specialist options are available and students undertake a major and a minor project, which enables them to produce a show-reel or other appropriate piece of professional work for presentation to possible future employers or clients. This involves research and writing, managing budgets, consultations, marketing strategy and production and direction.
