Learning for all at Teesside

21 October 2003

You’re never too old to learn - that’s the message from the University of Teesside which is holding a special Access & Mature Entry open day on Saturday 1 November. The day is tailored towards the over-21’s and those who are currently studying towards Access courses.

The University campus will be open from 9.30am - 2pm, with the opportunity to discuss courses, finances, fees, child care, learning disabilities and accommodation. Tours of the campus and the Learning Resource Centre on Southfield Road will take place from 12 noon onwards.

Sharon Bimson, from the University Centre for Life Long Learning, said: “As the Opportunity University, we pride ourselves on encouraging applications from as many people as possible, including more mature people. We take previous study experience and work-related skills into account and people can succeed on courses here even without having any formal qualifications.

“And we offer more than just full-time degrees. There is a variety of short and part-time courses available, many of which can be studied at various community based centres or local colleges. We have many mature students here at Teesside, some are studying to change career, while others are learning purely out of interest. I’d encourage any person who is interested in doing a course to come along to the open day and have a chat with our advisors.”
