Advice about funding delays for undergraduates

02 September 2004

The University’s received a number of enquiries about delays with student funding in the run up to the new term. Student Services has put together the following advice for full-time undergraduate students who are worried about funding delays…

If your LEA hasn't notified you… If your Local Education Authority (LEA) hasn't told you what assistance you're entitled to, then you need to contact them to find out when you're likely to receive this information. Contact numbers are listed on the DfES website.

If Student Loans haven't notified you… If you have received financial notification from your LEA, you should have completed the loan request on the reverse and returned it to the Student Loans Company. If you are a new student, you should have applied for funding by 2 July 2004, continuing students should have applied by 28 May 2004. If you've applied by these deadlines then you should receive your funding in time for the start of the academic year. If you missed these deadlines, then your Student Loan might be delayed. If you haven't received your student loan cheque by the start of term, you need to phone them on 0800 40 50 10 to find out the cause of the delay.

If you need advice… If you've contacted your LEA or the Student Loans Company, and you've got a problem you need advice about, contact the University's Student Service's Information Desk on 01642 342277 and make an appointment to see an adviser.

If you need an emergency loan… If you can't solve the problem and you're in financial difficulties, the University may be able to offer an emergency loan. Phone Student Services on 01642 342277, ask for an emergency loan application and make an appointment with an adviser. Complete the form and bring it to your appointment along with proof of enrolment and any correspondence you've had with the LEA or the Student Loans Company.

Please note: it is your responsibility to ensure that you repay the emergency loan by the agreed date.
