Double success for design duo

Design students are doing the University proud by showcasing their work to prove they are the cream of the crop.

Grant Stockport and Mariya Vasilievna Chughta are the latest star students to be showered with praise.

The Design Show Liverpool has included Grant in its shortlist for the 2008 Student Design Awards and he is up against competition from all over the UK.

Grant has just completed his BA (Hons) Product Design (Contemporary Lifestyle and Furniture). His entry is an EPS garden chair, which is a lightweight seat designed to help interaction between users as they sit facing each other.

The winning design will be announced on Wednesday 18 June and hopes are high for a Teesside triumph.

Mariya, who has just completed her first year in Graphic Design, has been awarded highly commended in the Northern Design Awards.

The awards are a regional celebration of excellence and Mariya beat students in their second and third years of study.

Jo Hamill, Programme Leader for Graphics Arts and Design, described the highly commended award as ‘a fantastic achievement’.
