OneDoor opens for businesses

30 July 2009 @TeessideUni

A new Tees Valley partnership is set to help businesses and individuals withstand the recession by boosting skills and qualifications

Teesside University and five further education colleges have come together to create the OneDoor network, which aims to provide higher-level training, innovation support, business mentoring, careers guidance and financial subsidies.

Laura Woods, Director of Academic Enterprise at Teesside University, said: 'This is exactly the time when businesses need to improve workforce skills and to innovate, so they can stay competitive and prepare for the upturn. And for people affected by redundancy, embarking on a new course can make all the difference to job opportunities. With OneDoor, we’re able to offer access to the whole range of higher-level skills and innovation provision from the University and colleges, often with financial subsidy.'

OneDoor is a partnership between Teesside University, Redcar and Cleveland College, Darlington College, Stockton Riverside College, Hartlepool College and Middlesbrough College.

In addition to higher-level training, OneDoor hopes to help the local economy through business innovation, as well as careers advice, subsidised work placements for recent graduates, mentoring services for business start-ups and higher-level skills progression for apprentices.

Laura said: 'As we continue to face redundancies and productivity slowdown, it’s critical that employers and individuals get the right help at the right time. With tailored support, we’re confident that OneDoor can make a real difference to the prospects of local people and businesses.'
