TSO 50th anniversary premieres at Teesside

02 November 2011

Teesside Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special concert at the University on Saturday 12 November, which will include two UK classical premieres.

Two new premieres

Judith Daly, Publicity Officer for the TSO, said, 'The people of Teesside can experience live music that they don’t normally have the opportunity to see and hear. We’ll be premiering two new pieces, Seascapes by David Golightly, a local composer based in Bishop Auckland. David will be in the audience to see his piece performed, which is quite unusual. We have also commissioned a piece by Edward Longstaff, the Assistant Director of music at the Purcell School of music, who will also be attending the concert.'

The anniversary concert will take place in the University’s Brittan Building, starting at 7.15pm and ending at 9.30pm, with an interval. Tickets are £6 for adults, with £5 concessions and £2 for children up to the age of 18.

To book tickets go to teesside symphony orchestra or email the secretary John Mace at ajw.mace@googlemail.com or call Judith Daley on 01642 318427. Tickets can also be bought from the University’s finance office on the ground floor of the Middlesbrough Tower.

The 40-strong orchestra still includes three of its original members from 1961 and the widow of Edwin Raymond, the TSO’s original Conductor. The two soloists, flautist Emma Hanlon and Hristo Duchev are both former pupils of the Purcell School of music. Emma was also a woodwind semi-finalist in the Young Musician of the Year 2010 and is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music and Hristo the Royal College of Music.
