Free employability skills boost for graduates

15 December 2011

Teesside University is offering a new opportunity for 2011 graduates who are yet to start work.

A free programme of Leadership and Entrepreneurship masterclasses will take place at the University in January and February 2012, providing an opportunity to learn key employability skills.

Whether you are a recent graduate wanting to set up in business or looking for employment, the essential skills you will learn will make an impressive addition to any CV.

With topics such as finance, business planning and networking, the masterclasses can help graduates develop the necessary skills to make that first step on the career ladder.

And as an additional boost to your future career and CV, the credits earned on successful completion of the module may be counted towards a range of master’s qualifications.

Simon Hodgson, Dean of the School of Science & Engineering, said: “We are aiming to provide Teesside graduates with the best support available at the beginning of their career.

“These masterclasses, which will be eight sessions, will provide graduates with experience and evidence of many of the most important skills which employers are looking for, including business awareness and professional communication.

“We also provide a comprehensive range of ongoing support for graduates through our careers service for two years after a student has graduated.” He added: “There are 25 full fee scholarships available on the course which starts on 7 January. Graduates shouldn’t delay, they can apply now to benefit from this fantastic opportunity.” Professor Eileen Martin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Student Experience) said: “Here at Teesside we want to equip our graduates with all the skills they need to find employment in the current difficult economic climate. Leadership and entrepreneurship is something the University excels in so these will be a valuable addition to a graduate’s CV.”

The deadline for applications is 2 January 2012.
