Students put the fun in to fundraising with the return of RAG

07 November 2012

Charitable Teesside University students are set to put the fun back in to fundraising with a week of day and night activities for Raise and Give (RAG) Week from 10 - 17 November.

The seven day extravaganza is primarily to raise cash for the Children In Need appeal and will include student volunteers collecting donations throughout the week around campus and town.

There’ll also be charity netball and football tournaments to kick the week off in style plus events through the week including a charity quiz, club and societies carnival, fancy dress day and a pyjama party as part of the Friday night club event to round off the week.

The events are led entirely by student volunteers with support from Executive Officers Hannah Parratt (Student Activities Officer) and Natalie Davison (Campaigns and Welfare Officer).

Hannah said: 'Fundraising at Teesside has been a bit quiet over the past couple of years and RAG is a big tradition at Universities that we were keen to re-establish here at Teesside.

'It’s interesting because people often think of students as a bit lazy or self-involved but we've had loads of people come forward wanting to do their bit for charity through the week. They enjoy it, want to help people less fortunate than them and of course count it as good experience and a great opportunity for personal development.'

Natalie added: 'We know times are hard but we’re obviously hoping both students and the general public will give as generously as they possibly can when they see RAG Volunteers out and about.

'While we’re keen to raise as much for charity as we can our main objective this year is to get a fundraising and RAG culture back at Teesside, something we’re hopeful this week of activities will help us achieve.'

Full information on all the events, how to volunteer and how to donate is available at www.tees-su.org.uk/rag.
