The Turing Scheme provides funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world.
The scheme will offer the opportunity for 25 Teesside University students to access new study abroad opportunities in Summer 2022.
The funding will allow students, including 40% from a disadvantaged background, to take part in mobility experiences across the world with partner universities.
During the study abroad programmes, students will engage in a wide range of activities from academic classes to cultural experiences.
Teesside University is committed to the internationalisation of the student experience, and this new mobility scheme will enhance the learning and employability outcomes of our students.
These opportunities will be available to all students, with applications welcome, from January 2022.
Alizée Cordes, International Student Mobility Manager, said: “We are delighted with the outcomes of the Turing Scheme, the funding will offer Teesside University students from all backgrounds and programmes the opportunity to take part in new and life-changing international summer programmes.
“The international summer programmes are part of Teesside’s ongoing internationalisation strategy, focusing on providing supported opportunities for our UK students to gain international experience, even if this is not a standard part of their course.
We understand the value of these opportunities for our students, which aim to provide global perspectives and life experience, as well as international travel opportunities which might not have otherwise been accessible.
“We look forward to sharing more information about these programmes soon, including the destinations.”
Dr David Bell, Pro Vice-Chancellor International, said: “The Turing Scheme funding will help us to build on our existing opportunities to support students in gaining international experience as part of their degree programme.
“In recent years we have organised cultural immersion visits and enrichment experiences for our students, sending them to countries including India, China, Malaysia and many others.
“We understand the value of these opportunities for our students, which aim to provide global perspectives and life experience, as well as international travel opportunities which might not have otherwise been accessible.
“We will continue to work with our network of international partner universities to develop further mobility opportunities for our students, and the Turing funding will provide essential financial assistance to widen participation in those experiences.”
Further details of the programme and destinations of the scheme will follow.
