Ethan Young, who is in his second year studying a BEng Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Whitworth Scholars Award.
IMechE offer a range of scholarships to help support the development of outstanding young engineers embark on undergraduate degree level programme.
Ethan said: ‘Being awarded the Whitworth Scholarship is an incredible honour. Apart from the financial support it provides, the scholarship also allows me to connect with engineers who have had similar backgrounds to myself through the Whitworth Society.
‘I believe this will not only be helpful during my studies but will be of huge benefit for the rest of my career.’
To be eligible for the scholarship award, students must have completed at least two years of vocational training in an engineering discipline before entering a degree-level engineering course.
Ethan said: ‘After leaving school I did an apprenticeship in tool making before deciding to go to university which allowed me to qualify for the scholarship.’
To have been awarded two prestigious scholarships is an amazing achievement and is testament to his hard work and dedication and I am sure he is set for a highly successful engineering career.
The Whitworth Awards are open to engineers in all the main engineering disciplines including mechanical civil electrical and other engineering disciplines.
The Whitworth Scholars Award represents a further success for Ethan after recently secured a £5,000 grant from the Dogger Bank Wind Farm Scholarship Fund which was developed to support young adults studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Sajid Abdullah, Senior Lecturer in Engineering and Automotive Design in Teesside University’s School of Science, Engineering & Digital Technologies, said: ‘We are really pleased for Ethan.
‘To have been awarded two prestigious scholarships is an amazing achievement and is testament to his hard work and dedication and I am sure he is set for a highly successful engineering career.
‘We hope that his example will encourage other students to take up future opportunities.’
