On Tuesday 11 February between 11am and 1.30pm (11:00-13:30), we are holding a Volunteering Fair in the Exhibition Space, Ground Floor Student Life Building, in conjunction with National Student Volunteer Week.

Come along and chat to the Volunteering Team and to voluntary organisations about their available opportunities within the local community and within the university and find out how to get involved.

There are many reasons why people volunteer – to help and inspire others, to gain skills and experience or just to have fun and meet people. Whatever your reason, make the most of your time at university, develop your skills and experience, grow your networks, and enhance your CV.

No booking is required.

Boro Angels
Boro Angels look out for those that are vulnerable and help however we can, often offering a shoulder to cry on or a listening ear. Our excellent contacts mean we can assist those who have emotional, mental health or addiction issues or are homeless or sleeping rough. Our volunteers (who come from all walks of life) usually offer their services one Saturday night a month, some do two, but most are available in an emergency should the need arise. Our volunteering is not only important to our volunteers who feel they 'make a difference' (however small it may be), but we also work alongside Medics UK, Cleveland Police, and the Door Staff who we know appreciate our efforts more than we could ever realise.

FareShare North East
FareShare NorthEast aims to address the issues of hunger and food waste by redistributing surplus food to local organisations across the North East. These organisations support vulnerable people in some way. The food is then transformed into delicious hot and cold meals or snacks for people who need it most. For the organisations we work with, getting food from FareShare North East is a much needed resource. Not only does the food help support their beneficiaries, but they are able to re-invest the money they save on food into providing more essential services. This includes delivering advice, guidance, mentoring or holding more social activities.

Derbyshire Dales Council for Voluntary Service are also a project partner, working to help build capacity and infrastructure. The project is made possible through the National Lottery Heritage Fund and has a focus on ethnically and culturally diverse communities, so they have the confidence and skills to build a lifelong relationship with the National Parks. In the North York Moors National Park, we would like to bring together the communities of Teesside.

Cleveland Police
The Cleveland Police area covers approximately 230 square miles and has a population of around 560,000 people. The force was formed in 1974 as the successor to the Teesside Constabulary and the York and Northeast Yorkshire Police. It also took over part of Durham Constabulary. The force area is the country's second smallest geographically. Volunteering with the Police gives you the chance to work alongside regular Police Officers and Police Staff, bringing skills and experiences from your day job and allowing you to give something back to the area.
