The service is now available from enrolment up to six months after graduation, ensuring that students and leavers are supported throughout their study journeys including in the transition from university life.
It connects students and graduates to a qualified counsellor or adviser via a confidential phone line. A chat function is also available during the week.
They can contact the service about any difficulty they are facing, such as health, wellbeing, bereavement, money, housing and relationships.
The assistance programme was introduced as part of Teesside University’s Great Minds campaign, which encompasses all of the services, support and activities available to promote positive mental wellbeing.
Lindsay While, Assistant Director (Student Wellbeing and Welfare) at Teesside University, said: “Promoting positive mental health and wellbeing among students, graduates and staff is a priority for our University.

“This assistance programme is here to provide an additional layer of support to help them navigate any academic or personal difficulties which may arise during their studies or in the transition from university life.
“The service is one of many wellbeing initiatives we have in place to support our community. Our advisers within the Student Life team are on hand for in-person or online appointments with students, and we host a range of events throughout the year focused on maintaining good mental and physical health.”
The student assistance programme is delivered with Vita Health Group, part of Spire Healthcare.
