The twins, who are originally from Nigeria, graduated from the Doctor of Business Administration at Teesside University International Business School.
They had originally planned to study in the south-west of England, but after Hassan spoke to an academic friend who spoke highly of Teesside University, they decided to switch direction.
Hassan said: “Teesside offered not just academic rigour, but a peaceful, affordable place to study. I’ve never regretted that choice
Hussein added: “We did our homework and looked at the course, the support systems, the cost of living and the more we learned, the more it made sense to make the switch. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. Sometimes Plan B is just Plan A in disguise.”
Hassan, who work as a pharmacy dispenser within a large supermarket chain, said: “The DBA has enhanced my attention to detail, improved my communication with patients, and strengthened my decision-making under pressure.
“Balancing part-time work with research deadlines, and family life wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience, structure, and purpose. I’ve come out of this journey more focused and more confident in who I am and what I can contribute.”
Hussein, who works with an admin team in the NHS, said: “The DBA has refined my analytical mindset, strengthened my leadership confidence, and equipped me to contribute more meaningfully to organisational goals. It’s been a powerful bridge between theory and real-world impact.
“I chose this degree because I wanted to grow professionally and sharpen the skills that matter most in leadership roles. I wasn’t just looking for a certificate, I wanted knowledge that would empower me to lead with confidence, make strategic decisions, and inspire others.”
Hussein added: “The Student Life Building was my favourite spot. Whether it was grabbing a snack, chatting with fellow students, or just taking a breather, it offered a great balance to the intensity of research and study.
“Teesside wasn’t just a place to study. It became a place where I could grow, feel like I belonged, and find real inspiration. What started as an unexpected journey ended up being one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had.”
Hassan added: “Teesside gave me more than a degree; it gave me a sense of belonging. I got to explore the region for the first time, meet amazing people, and get involved in volunteering through university-led opportunities. That work supporting vulnerable people was incredibly meaningful.”
Hussein added: “What made the experience truly unforgettable was sharing it with my twin brother, Hassan. We were in it together from start to finish. We celebrated the wins, powered through the sleepless nights, and kept each other going when things got tough and motivation started to fade.
“Having someone by my side who understood exactly what it felt like - the pressure, the passion, and the purpose - meant everything. It wasn’t just about earning a degree. It was about going through something meaningful together.”
