Danny, 23, from Norton, was one of thousands to celebrate their academic accomplishments in Teesside University’s summer graduation ceremonies.

He completed the BA (Hons) Sport Journalism within the School of Arts & Creative Industries.

Danny said: “I’m so happy to have graduated with the first-class degree I wanted and excited to get out there into the world of work. But I also can’t believe my time at university has come to an end.

“I made so many memories and friends during my studies, and the lecturers believed in us and helped us flourish. They pushed me to be the best I could be.

“I now work as a Media and Marketing Officer for Middlesbrough Football Club, which is a dream role for me coming straight out of university.”

As Media and Marketing Officer for the Women’s Team, Danny manages the club’s social media accounts and prepares content around match days.

He added: “Teesside University is an Adobe Creative Campus, and the fact that we had access to this professional software throughout our studies was a game-changer.

Teesside University gave me opportunities I could never have dreamed of.

“The facilities and physical equipment like the cameras and audio equipment also helped me become a well-rounded, multi-skilled, confident journalist.

“The opportunities I had were amazing too.”

During his second year, Danny travelled to the Costa del Sol on an assignment to cover the International Quizzing Championships featuring The Chase’s Paul Sinha.

He went on to secure a Planet Forward correspondent role, working as an environmental storyteller and presenting at the Planet Forward Summit in Washington DC.

“If you told me in my first year that I would go to America three times and be a panellist on stage at a summit, I would never have believed you.

“Becoming a Planet Forward correspondent did more for me than I could have ever thought. It helped me grow as a journalist, as a video creator and as a podcaster.

"Teesside University gave me opportunities I could never have dreamed of.”
