Andria reached the final 12 out of 250 entrants. She entered three alternative designs, and her overall winner was entitled ‘Rose on a Windowsill’. The sting starts with a rose on a white background, then moves onto the rose on a windowsill, with an increasing number of red petals floating onto it. The 15-second sting took five months to produce in its final form, under the supervision of Ellie Serafin, Senior Lecturer at Teesside and Phil Davies, an independent producer with Creative Film Productions in London. The sting will be screened in November as part of Channel 4’s late-night Animation Zone.
Andria has received £600 prize money, and another £400 will be allocated to the University’s School of Computing & Mathematics. She said: “It feels really good to have won the competition. It’s not very often that students get the opportunity to have their work shown on national television. Hopefully when it’s screened, I’ll get some interest from people in the animation industry. I’m putting the prize money towards a car.”
Ellie Serafin said: “I’m really pleased for Andria, she has always been a strong student and is very deserving of this recognition. She read the competition brief thoroughly, developed her ideas creatively and delivered what Channel 4 required.”
