The partnership, which has been in place since 2019, will see ETIC_Algarve deliver four additional Teesside University top-up degrees from October 2026, further enhancing opportunities for students studying creative and digital disciplines in Portugal.

Based in Faro, Portugal, ETIC_Algarve specialises in industry-focused education across design, communication, audiovisuals, music, technology and the creative arts. Since September 2024, the institution has successfully delivered Teesside University's BA (Hons) Games Design and BSc (Hons) Games Development programmes.

Subject to final approval, the expanded programme portfolio will include:

  • BA (Hons) Digital Media and Communications Top-up
  • BA (Hons) TV & Film Production Top-up
  • BA (Hons) Music Production Top-up
  • BA (Hons) Photography Top-up

The new programmes will be delivered through Teesside University's School of Arts & Creative Industries, offering students in Portugal access to internationally recognised UK qualifications while supporting the development of creative talent within the region.

The collaboration extends beyond teaching and learning, with a growing mobility programme enabling students and graduates to benefit from international placements and internship opportunities in both Portugal and the UK.

Professor Chrisina Jayne, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement & Partnerships) at Teesside University, said: 'Our partnership with ETIC_Algarve is an excellent example of how we work with leading international organisations to create transformative opportunities for students and strengthen our global educational community.

'Since establishing our partnership, we have developed a strong relationship built on shared values, innovation and a commitment to industry-focused education. The planned expansion of our creative industries portfolio will enable even more students in Portugal to access high-quality UK degrees while developing the skills and experience needed to succeed in fast-growing creative and digital sectors.

'We are also particularly proud of the opportunities this partnership creates for international mobility, cultural exchange and collaboration, enriching the experience of students and staff at both institutions.'

Nuno Ribeiro, Director of ETIC_Algarve, said: 'The expansion of our partnership with Teesside University marks an important milestone for ETIC_Algarve and for our students.

'The success of our games programmes has demonstrated the value of combining ETIC’s practical, industry-led approach with Teesside University’s internationally recognised academic expertise.

'By introducing these additional degree pathways, we will be able to offer even more opportunities for students to develop their creative talents, gain globally recognised qualifications and pursue successful careers in the creative industries.'

The portfolio expansion reflects the continued success of the collaboration between the two institutions and their shared commitment to practice-based, industry-relevant education.

It also strengthens links between the North East of England and the Algarve’s growing creative and digital industries, supporting talent development, employability and international knowledge exchange.

The new programmes are expected to launch in October 2026, subject to final approval processes.
